The Peace and Repose of Quepos

Quepos is renowned all over the world for its sport fishing. It is a small town that lies 160 km from San José in the Puntarenas province of Costa Rica. It lies on the Pacific coast of the country. The place is ideal for a rejuvenating weekend. The place is a three-hour drive from the capital San José.

The period from January to April is the most favorable time for tours. The fishing season continues from December to August. February is the time for the Festival del Mar.

The popular fish include marlin, sailfish, snapper, Amberjack, Wahoo, roosterfish and tuna. Individuals interested in angling can fish either inshore or offshore. Besides fishing, other fun-filled activities include canopy tours, horseback riding, rafting, kayaking, and surfing.

The climate of the region is tropical in nature. Puerto Quepos is surrounded by a primary rainforest.

The village center comprises of a six-block square. This square is home to hotels, bakeries, restaurants, art galleries, and gift shops. The city is growing at a rapid pace. Yet it has not forgotten its humble beginnings.

The local inhabitants celebrate the beauty of life. Dancing in the streets is a popular pastime. The period from December to April sees the most activity. The Festival del Mar features concerts, parades, sporting events, and a carnival. During this time, there is a spurt in the number of travelers, including surfers, backpackers, ecotourists, scientists, and jet-setters. The variety in the flora and fauna match the diversity of cultures. In addition, the locals provide warm hospitality.

Known for its banana plantations, Quepos has become a major hub for tourists in Costa Rica. Tourism has become the primary industry employing thousands of individuals. The 1800s saw the demise of the Quepoa Indians. The bananas were exported to the world through the docks that are now home to fishing.

The African palms, known for their high-quality palm oil, overtook the cultivation of bananas. The port famous for its bananas has now become a hub for ecotourism and fishing.

Some of the travelers have even purchased property in the area and return each year to savor the natural beauty.
