This mind-boggling place lies just west of Coatepeque Caldera. The Summit of Santa Ana offers four nested calderas along with volcanic craters. The innermost circle includes a small crater lake. Due to the fall down of the summit during late Pleistocene, it produced a huge amount of debris avalanche that arrived at the Pacific Ocean by creating the Acajutla Peninsula. Following this, the eruptions have mainly rebuilt the structure. You will get numerous historical eruptions right from 1500s. This could be found both at the summit and on the lower flanks from cinder cones.
