Fun with Kuna’s at San Blas

The inhabitants of Playon Chico in Panama are called the Kuna Indians. These people hold an ancient belief that the people here have a good and bad spirit. So, for the spirit to reach heaven after death, the Kuna women march up the jungle slope all the way to the hilltop where the graveyard is. This is how they give company to their deceased and ensure that they never get lonely. When Carlos Owens (a local from here) died, the women in his family lounged in hammocks that were attached into the poles that supported the roof of his grave; the shelters were usually filled with smoke from the pots of incense which the older women of the group place on the grave. The much younger women work on molas which is layered into long fabrics and then cut quit intricately. These are then sewn into many different colors and designs.

People from the Kuna culture; still exist in the modern world. These groups have stuck to their ancient ways despite all the pressures of modern society.  If you want to se them, then you might have to go to the mountains of Burma and jungles in Congo. The Kuna people are quite beautiful.

The collection of San Blas islands that are located on the Caribbean coast of Panama.  While you are traveling here from one place to the other you might have to cross walking trails, hilly regions, boat rides in rivers. The boa rides take you about fifteen minutes. These islands here are a cultural paradise. This is apparently one of the few vacation spots where both a scientist and a regular person will have no difference in opinion.

The San Blas islands are not very popular on the tourism map; however this clearly don’t seem like it would be this way for much long. You should hire a guide over here, usually you could have the hotel that you are staying in; arrange for that to happen! The television series Survivor featured the Sapibenega the Kuna Lodge. This is a hotel that is located on a small island that is exclusively devoted to the island.

There are four cabanas that sit on the stilts here in the water like a luxury oasis that has four walls.  There are comfortable beds and amenities like mosquito nets with hammocks that are made for lounging on the porch; you could get an awesome view of the ocean while lying in your hammock.
