Amazing Montezuma

Montezuma is a small village located on the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. The village makes its living primarily Montezuma costa ricathrough fishing. It has now gained fame due to the Cabo Blanco National Park, Isla Tortuga, and Curu Wildlife Reserve. The village has a rustic and laidback culture. On the whole, the place is ideal for relaxation.

The beaches encourage the hippie lifestyle. Accommodations are inexpensive and comfortable. Most of the restaurants serve delectable, local cuisine. The village is sparsely populated, although it comes to life at night. Beach parties abound in number.

At dusk, the bars and clubs become active and the sight is one to behold. The beaches are separated by rocky outgrowths, and surfing is popular. The rip tide is very strong, making surfing a danger. Snorkeling, boogie boarding, and horseback riding are the other activities you can indulge in. Other famous beaches are the Cocal, Quizales, and Cocalito.Montezuma waterfalls

Montezuma waterfalls are located on the outskirts of the village. The waterfall is 50 feet high with a shallow pool below. Diving can be dangerous as the pool is shallow with several rocks.

Camping on the beaches is prohibited. Therefore, finding an accommodation is an important task. The Puntarenas-Paquera ferry leads to the village. Alternatively, you can travel from San Pablo to Playa Naranjo leading to Cobano and then to Montezuma. You can even get to Tambor from San José. From here, it is a 30 minute drive.

Grilling locally-caught fish on the beach is a popular pastime. Fire dancing is also a favorite. The waterfall leads to three natural pools. Lessons are available on surfing, yoga, and Spanish at La Escuela Del Sol. Montezuma Butterfly GardensThe Montezuma Butterfly Gardens are a favorite hangout. Some of the tours allow you to scuba dive and fish. The canopy tour by Sun Trails allows you to fly over the trees.

The lifestyle of the village makes it hard to say goodbye to the place. Therefore, many tourists have made Montezuma their home. In Spanish, the saying goes ‘Calle sin salida’.

Most travelers are European and American naturalists, conservationists, and artists. The residents have created a multicultural community that is dedicated to conservation. They also maintain an alternative lifestyle.

The hippie culture is most evident during market time. Small farmers of the region gather every Saturday morning in central park. Organic food and flowers are available in large numbers. Some musicians will make you groove to the live jam session.

Chico’s Bar is a highlight of the nightlife. It lies in the center of Montezuma. The bar is open air with large dance floors. The back of the bar faces the ocean. Sano Banano hotel is the place to be, if movies are on your mind.
