Nicaragua | admin | August 10, 2011Managua is the capital of Nicaragua, and has a huge array of sights on offer for the visitor. The city has a range of diverse offerings, right from culture, to nature, to architecture and more. This is the central hub for all flights and also for buses and trains. The city experiences summer all through the year.
The heat may take some time to get used to. There are a number of colonial buildings located in the city. These are remnants of the many buildings that were ravaged in the 1972 earthquake. There is no dearth of quality at all.
Taking long strolls through the historical neighborhoods is one of the best ways of getting a feel of the city. You can see the huge number of historical monuments that stand in picture book testimony to the historical significance of the city.
The Semana Santa is a really fun time to visit. This is the Easter week, and most locals get ready for some mad partying. The dancing is simply amazing.
There are a number of natural attractions located close to the city. There are volcanic craters located close to the city. The swampy and low lying regions close to the city have a number of eroded volcanic craters. There are a number of day trips to these areas.
Another sight is a group of footprints from the prehistoric era, more than six thousand years old made by a group of twelve people. This is located at the Huellas de Acahualinca, and they were discovered in 1874 by quarry workers covered by volcanic material.
