Say Hello to Heredia

forests, magnificent waterfalls and majestic rivers. Heredia is a must-visit, especially if you are a nature lover. There are several adventure-based activities that you can indulge in.
The capital of the province goes by the same name. The city of Heredia is large and has a modern atmosphere and feel. It has nearly all the facilities and amenities that San José offers. Treat the city as a base camp for touring the country. With Heredia you can be sure to escape the hustle and bustle of San José. The traffic snarls, too, are no longer a bother. Heredia seems more peaceful and low-key in comparison with San José. There are several hotels and lodges offering spacious accommodations. Mountain resorts and hostels are situated in the heart of the city.
Volcan Barva, situated in Braulio Carrillo National Park, is the most famous attraction of the city. This volcano can be scaled by tourists. At the base of the volcano are green pastures. The summit comprises mesmerizing cloud forests. The north of the city has several cottages adorned with fireplaces. The restaurants, too, serve local cuisine cooked over firewood. The place is ideal for those who wish to have a relaxing and rejuvenating experience.
The Braulio Carrilo and Tapanti National Parks lie to the north of the city. The parks are home to unique wildlife species. The forests are dense due to heavy rainfall.
The parks are a paradise for bird lovers. The quetzal is probably the most unique among all species of birds. It is a cultural symbol of Central America.
Among the wildlife, the puma and tapir are seen frequently among the dense forestation. Other attractions of the city include Butterfly Farm, El Mundo de las Serpientes, and Zoo Ave. These play a pivotal role in conservation of wildlife.
The local culture is most evident at the Central Park, also known as Parque Central. The park is shaded partly and lined with mango trees. The heritage buildings are the highlight of the park. The buildings trace their roots to the 18th century. Situated on the border of the park is the colonial-like Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, which was built in 1797. The bells were created in Peru, and the structure has survived the test of time. The park, which has a stage, occasionally hosts concerts and performances.
The tower of El Fortín is a made of bricks and was constructed by the Spanish. The tower gives a fantastic view of the city. The locals use Central Park as a place for socializing and meeting friends.
