Darien Gap, a Sinful Hidden Province of Panama

Resting amid Panama City and Columbia, Darien Gap is a province, which has many adventures and mysteries stored in it. Last Frontier, i.e. what many people refer it because it is believed to be the last unadulterated place in the entire globe. Having wealth of forest and lots of adventure, but Darien Gap is a challenge for those who want to traverse Central America to South America, as the roads are still undeveloped in this province.

Darien Gap is full of natural beauty as well as rich in culture as the people are indigenous of the area and are living here since more than hundreds of years. The province the is the UNESCO site where there is variety of the natural resources as wildlife, unspoiled beaches, rainforests, mountainous and swampy areas.

Often this province is overlooked by Panama City and has dire images for drug trafficking and travel a warning, that’s why the travelers don’t prefer to travel in this region. Anyways, the region is best to explore with a guide and the best people for this job are two Frenchman who have been living in this region for over thirty years and know the eveDarien Gap National Parkry tribe in this region. They can give you a promising experience in this untouched territory of wilderness.

The Darien Gap National Park is a UNESCO site where you will get to see many beaches as well as mountain ranges with dense green forests and swamps.  In Darien Gap, the first would be the city of La Palma, which is the capital city of the province as well as the most populated town in Darien Gap. Reaching to the city is the easiest way to get into the province. Most of the Panama tours arrange the Darien Gap’s capital and its park for the travelers wishing to explore the wilderness of Panama. The entire tour is booked from the accommodation to traveling everything is arranged. The Embera-Wounaan and Kuna Indians are some of the native cultures in the Darien Gap Panama who are fun to meet.

The National Park of Darien Gap is a heaven for bird-watchers. The park is home to some of the birds like harpy eagles, macaws and parrots and many more. You will get mesmerized by the beauty of the rainforests. The region is also great to see Columbian gorilla groups.  The forest is very dense and there have been cases of gorillas’ attacks, so it is recommended to take a guide or a local with you whenever you wish to visit this place.

The hiking in many areas of the region can be slippery as well as muddy so wear good rainy boots. The boat trips are very standard so if you are a meticulous traveler, you will enjoy the boat trip.

As this province is undeveloped, the accommodations are very rustic, even at some place you may even have to camp. But for a memorable accommodation experience, book yourself at the Pirre Station in Darien Gap National Park. The Pirre Station gives a wonderful experience as it is situated nearby a waterfall where you can cool off or slide in the water. The amazing part is the Pirre cloud forest, which is always full of mist. The whole experience in Darien Gap is a like dream, which is even hard to imagine.

The transportations available in the Darien Gap Province are by plane, boat and foot. From Panama once, a week plane comes to Darien Gap by AirPanama to capital town, La Palma. There is one more plane, AeroPerlas, which will take to neighboring town of La Palma’s, El Real. The plane flies thrice a week here.

From Panama, you can come by Pan-American Highway that will take you to Yaviza and from here; you will have to take a boat trip to La Palma.

To get around the province most of the time you will end up walking as there are very few roads and plus undeveloped.

    Darien Province is for adventure enthusiasts as its a very inaccessible land of swamps and tropical forests..Darien park is replete with native wildlife.

    Not only did my family and me got to witness the interesting creatures here, but also we got the chance to interact with natives of a remote jungle village.!
