If you are in Jamaica and want to experience the ultimate pampering, book a suite at the Sandals Royal Plantation. This boutique resort is located in the lush north eastern territories of Jamaica, in a fascinating coral bluff. The resort is extremely cozy and houses only 74 suites, each of which offers an exotic ocean-view.

Sandals Royal Plantation is famous for offering flawless service to each of its guests. All through the day the staffs of this resort will be ready to attend; call them during the middle of the night, and you will find them knocking your door.

The tourists that come here to Guatemala come here to visit the ancient Mayan ruins. Also the Indian markets here have a large and lush countryside. This place has lakes and volcanoes that remind you of the many decades of civil war. The last few years though have resulted in the government becoming more stable politically and economically. . The country is known for its cosmopolitan attractions as well.

The tourism industry in Guatemala is on the rise. The locals here have paid special attention to making this place grow into a major tourism hub. The city has a population of about thirty thousand people. There is also a special tourism police force that is in play here that come fully equipped and trained in English. These tourism police roam the streets and keep patrolling the place to avoid any kind of mishaps from happening. You will also find that this place is safe to walk on, evening in the darkest hours of the night. A lot of the buildings here are candle lit.

This city used to serve as capital for the entire Spanish Armada. This Spanish controlled region of Guatemala stretches all the way from Mexico City to Peru. This h was the case for over two centuries.

It is not too difficult to wonder why the Spanish chose Guatemala in particular. The city of Antigua is set between three volcanoes and these are visible from anywhere in the city. The only active volcano which is called Feugo gives out a consistent puff of smoke.

Since this place used to be the capital before, the capital has now shifted to Guatemala City. The monuments here in Antigua which include the many monumental government buildings along with the many churches that have been ruined by the many earthquakes that happened here. The streets are all cobblestone. And the streets are generally lines with stucco houses that are quite colorful, painted with stand out bright colors. This place still has a colonial feel to it.

You will find many luxury hotels, cafes, jewelry shops and day spas that are available here.

It is easy to move around in this city. Antigua is one of the first planned cities in America. This place has a grid pattern with is actually inspired from the early Italian renaissance period. A fancy European style plaza is built in the center. This is where you will find the fountain of topless women. This is what marks the plaza at its center as a major touristy destination.

When people started to talk about this, the sculptor, to drive away any claims of indecency, said that the fountain has mermaids carved into it. There are many chances that you will get to explore the history of this place. The baroque façade which is in bright yellow and white, is one of the largest in all of Central America.

Think Cuba and the first thing that has to hit your mind is ‘dance and music’. Cuban lands have epitomized for long the ‘moves and grooves’ of the world. The salsa capital of the world (not the spicy sauce, but the spiced-up dance form), this island has a lot to offer for the musical souls that land on its shores.

The Dirty Dancer’s Haven:

Remember the 2004 movie – Dirty Dancing : Havana Nights? This movie was set in the streets of Havana, Cuba; at the cusp of what was the Cuban Revolution (remember Che Guevara?). Coming back to the plot of the movie – it was based on a young American girl (Katey); with parents who used to be professional dancers; who as a family shift to Havana, Cuba.

Here she comes in contact with the Cuban style of dancing; introduced to her by a Javier; and she goes on to combine these styles with her own ‘ballroom-induced’ styles of dancing. The rest of the movie, needless to say, goes on with sprinkles of dancing and some romance (How original!).

The deal is that reach Cuba and you can’t really miss the dancing. It’s all over the place. Well, we’re not trying to suggest that people do nothing but dance on the streets all day; but there are a few who do. One thing you can be sure of when you land in Cuba – You’re going to be introduced to the dancing sooner or later!

Live Music Is The Way To Go:

It is, perhaps, (arguably) one of the most musical islands on planet earth. The Caribbean rhythms are almost intoxicating; and the ability to move their body will leave your eyes mesmerized. At almost every corner that you turn at, you’ll be left facing a small venue that can offer some live music and a miniscule dance floor for sure.

Almost everyone who is Cuban can seem to dance insanely well.

The music here is a mixture of African beats and percussion. This gets coupled with what we identify as European verse and melody. As a wise man once put it ‘Cuban music is like the marriage of the Spanish guitar and the African drum’.

You can be sure to hear pulsating music as you walk the streets of this island; and it’s difficult to get your legs to stop. You will find yourself swaying as the music takes over.

The Dances

The Cubans claim to be the creators of some of the common Latin musical styles that dominate our sensibilities today –

Son (which gave rise to salsa as we know it today)

Cha cha cha

Mambo

Latin Jazz

Bolero

Timba

These are just some of the few that are known in the west. There are a many more that you’ll be introduced to along the (Cuban) way.

Salsa definitely tops the list and is almost synonymous with the local culture. The best part about the Cubans is that they encourage people to join them. If dancing isn’t your thing; you could choose to pick up a drink and just observe. We guarantee you, you won’t get bored.

Learn Along The Way:

The best thing to do would be to choose a tour operator who gives you an itinerary that includes learning an instrument or a form of dance while you’re there. This would be the ultimate twist that you could give your Cuban Vacation.

Havana as a city is pretty much divided into three parts- old Havana, Vedado and new suburban districts.

Old Havana has beautiful looking streets though narrow and traditional.

You will be able to see classic vintage cars here. The city here is slow and laid back. Brewing in its flavor of cigars, rum and good food.

The city looks beautiful with its redeveloped buildings and bold colors.

The city is also the heart of Havanas culture, commerce and entertainment.

Havana looks beautiful with its magnificent arcades which had been built by the Spaniards.

As the colonists used to bring a lot of wealth into Havana due to its geographically advantageous position, it turned out to be the most wealthy city in all the Americas.

The architecture here in Havana is very influenced if not directly built by the Moors, the Spaniards, Italians, Romans and Greeks.

You will find many cathedral and palaces to look at and the architecture here is simply awesome.

Havana developed by marketing itself as destination for gambling lazing around in the sun.

In fact when the ‘Riviera’ opened, it was the largest casino in the world.

Let us look at some places to visit in Havana.

Fortalez San Carlos De la Cabana:

This is a beautifully designed fortress located to the east of the bay.

El Capitolio Nacional:

Very noticeable along the skyline of Havana is the large dome over the building which houses the Senate and the ‘house of representatives’. Inside this huge building is the largest indoor statue in the world.

Which is La Estatua De La republica.

Castillo De los tres Reyes Magos Del morro :

This beautifully designed fortress was made to guard the Havana bay against pirates and foreign invaders.

El Cristo De la Habana:

Just like Rio De Janeiro, Havana also has a statue of Christ blessing the city.

What you will find interesting is, that from here, you could get a good view of all of old Havana and the harbor.

Necropolis Cristobal Colon:

This is one of the most famous cemeteries in the world. Having over one million tombs, this cemetery is known for its beauty and magnificence. Also, the gravestones have sculpting made by world famous sculptors.

Also there are many art festivals in Havana that you could check out.

Cuban international jazz festival :

From street jam sessions to big concert halls, artists from all over the world come to perform jazz here.

Havana Ballet festival :

This is one of the most important festivals in the world as it gives new meaning and acknowledgment to the art of dancing. The festival is organized once in two years in the Cuban capital or even other cities as well. Veterans from international dance companies along with journalists, critics and entrepreneurs all come together at this festival.

Come to Havana and experience diversity and art with an extra-ordinary culture.
